Food Production Digital Signage: Durascreen KX IP66 Displays

Food production digital signage that survives the factory floor. Durascreen KX is a sealed, fanless, all-in-one industrial display that keeps KPIs, production schedules, allergen alerts and safety messages on screen through hose-downs, chillers, flour dust and 24/7 shift work, with no separate enclosure or media player.

Is Durascreen KX suitable for food production digital signage?

Yes, for most areas of a food or beverage plant. Durascreen KX from ProofVision is a fully sealed IP66 and IK10 digital signage display. Its fanless design draws in no air, and it runs 24/7 from −30°C to +50°C at 5–98% humidity. The 2,500-nit screen stays readable under bright factory lighting and outdoors, and a built-in Android 12 player means there's no PC or media box on the line.

It fits packing and dispatch, chilled and frozen stores (down to −30°C), goods-in, bakeries, low-pressure hose-down areas and canteens. It is not rated IP69K, so it isn't intended for high-pressure or steam washdown zones. It comes in 32", 55", 65" and 75" sizes, from UK stock, with a 3-year commercial warranty.

IP66 Sealed

Dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets for hose-down cleaning.

IK10 Impact Resistance

Toughened glass that takes knocks from pallets, trolleys and forklifts.

−30°C to +50°C

Operating range covers chillers, frozen stores and warm bakery areas.

Fanless Design

No air intake, so flour, dust and moisture stay out of the electronics.

2500 Nits Brightness

Readable under bright LED high-bays and in outdoor loading bays.

24/7 Operation

Rated for continuous use across every shift, with a 50,000-hour panel life.

Why standard screens fail on food factory floors

Commercial TVs and office monitors are built for dry, clean, temperature-stable rooms. A food plant has none of those, which is why food production digital signage needs an industrial, washdown-ready display screen.

IP65 vs IP66 vs IP67 vs IP69K: which rating does a food factory need?

The second digit of an IP rating describes water protection. These are the ratings most often specified for food production equipment, and what each one is tested against.

RatingWhat it's tested againstTypical food factory use
IP65Dust-tight. Low-pressure water jets (6.3 mm nozzle, 12.5 litres per minute)Splash zones and light cleaning
IP66 Durascreen KXDust-tight. Powerful water jets (12.5 mm nozzle, 100 litres per minute)Hose-down cleaning, packing, chilled, dispatch and yard areas
IP67Dust-tight. Temporary immersion up to 1 m for 30 minutesEquipment that may be submerged. This doesn't test against jets
IP69KDust-tight. Close-range, high-pressure (80–100 bar), high-temperature (up to 80°C) jetsIntensive sanitation zones, such as meat and dairy processing

A higher number isn't always better for your zone. IP66 and IP67 test different things, and IP69K is only needed where high-pressure, hot washdown is used.

Built for every part of the plant.

Food manufacturing KPI examples to put on screen

Line-side screens work best when they show the few numbers operators can act on during the shift. These are the KPIs food manufacturers most often display.

  • OEE and line efficiency. Availability, performance and quality against target.
  • Andon and line status. An andon board showing which lines are running, idle or stopped, and where help is needed.
  • Output vs plan. Packs or cases produced this hour and this shift.
  • Downtime and causes. Current stops and the top reasons for lost time.
  • Giveaway and yield. Pack weight giveaway, yield and waste against target.
  • Quality. Right first time, quality holds and changeover sign-off.
  • Dispatch. On time in full (OTIF) and loads waiting.
  • Safety. Days since the last incident and near-miss reports.
Foreign-body control

Glass, audits & BRCGS

Food safety standards such as BRCGS don't ban glass from production areas. They require every glass and brittle item to be justified, registered, checked regularly and covered by a breakage procedure. Durascreen KX helps you meet that requirement.

For open-product, high-care zones, your site's own risk assessment decides whether glass-fronted equipment is permitted. If it isn't, we'll tell you and recommend a different location or approach.

  • IK10-rated toughened glass. IK10 is the highest impact rating on the scale, so the screen resists the knocks that would crack an ordinary monitor.
  • One sealed unit. There's a single glass item to register and inspect per location, rather than a TV plus an enclosure window.
  • No fans or vents. Nothing draws in air, dust or moisture, and nothing blows particulates across the area.

Durascreen KX vs a TV in an enclosure

Many food plants put a standard TV inside a stainless steel enclosure. Both approaches work for food production digital signage. This is how they compare.

FAQs

What is the best screen for food production digital signage?

The best screen is fully sealed (at least IP65/IP66), fanless so it doesn't draw in dust or moisture, rated for the temperature of the zone, and rated for 24/7 use. Durascreen KX meets all four for most food plant areas: IP66, fanless, −30°C to +50°C, and 24/7. For high-pressure steam washdown zones, choose IP69K-rated equipment instead.

What does IP66 mean?

IP66 means a product is completely dust-tight (the first 6) and protected against powerful water jets from any direction (the second 6). It's tested with 100 litres per minute from a 12.5 mm nozzle at around 3 metres. Durascreen KX is IP66-rated, which suits hose-down cleaning in food production areas.

Can Durascreen KX be hosed down?

Yes. IP66 means the unit is dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets (tested at 100 litres per minute from a 12.5 mm nozzle). It is not rated for high-pressure lances or steam cleaning, which fall under IP69K.

What does IP69K mean, and do I need it?

IP69K protects against close-range, high-pressure (80–100 bar), high-temperature (up to 80°C) jets used in intensive sanitation areas such as meat and dairy processing. IP66 protects against powerful water jets at low pressure, which covers most hose-down cleaning. Most packing, chilled, dispatch and general production areas don't need IP69K.

Will it work in a chiller or freezer?

Yes. Durascreen KX operates from −30°C to +50°C and at 5–98% humidity, so it covers chilled production, cold rooms and typical frozen stores. Blast freezers running below −30°C are outside the rated range.

Is the screen glass a foreign-body risk?

It uses IK10-rated toughened glass, the highest impact rating, which is far more resistant to breakage than a standard monitor. As with any glass item, add it to your glass and brittle materials register and include it in your site checks. Your HACCP or BRCGS risk assessment decides whether it's permitted in open-product, high-care areas.

Why does fanless matter in food production?

Screens with fans draw air, and with it flour, sugar, spice dust and moisture, into the electronics. That causes overheating and failure, and a fan can blow particulates around the area. Durascreen KX cools passively with no air intake.

Is Durascreen KX made of stainless steel?

No. The chassis is sealed, powder-coated aluminium. If your site specification requires 304 or 316 stainless steel in a particular zone, tell us and we'll advise whether Durascreen KX or an alternative approach is the better fit.

Does it need a separate PC or media player?

No. It has a built-in Android 12 player that runs content from USB, a network or a compatible digital signage CMS. That means fewer devices on the production floor to seal, clean and support.

Can it display live KPI and OEE dashboards?

Yes. Most sites show KPI and OEE dashboards from their MES, SCADA or ERP through a browser-based dashboard or a digital signage CMS. We'll confirm compatibility with your systems before you order.
